Shoulder To Shoulder’s hosted its inaugural walk to break the cycle of fatherlessness and poverty. It was held on the track at Martin Luther King, Jr., Technology Academy beginning Friday, September 18, at 5:00 p.m. and ending Saturday, September 19, at 5:00 p.m. The turn out was great and all involved had a super time and the goals for the walk were achieved.
The Walk goals are: to draw attention to the dramatic impact of being raised fatherless in the inner city of Sacramento; to encourage men to mentor fatherless young men and women to serve single mothers, and to raise financial support for expanding Freedom Hall.
Businesses, colleges, churches, schools, and service organizations can participate by forming a WALK TEAM to help get the word out into the greater Sacramento region about the impact of fatherlessness in the inner city and encourage people to support their WALK TEAM financially.
A gathering staged in the middle and around the track at MLK included booths, food, games, music, controlled entry, speakers, and more.
The next Walk is scheduled for May 2011 in conjunction with the Twin Rivers Unified School District and is supported by various area businesses, churches, and service organizations.
